The RM Young Model 09106 Wind Monitor-SE-MA is a high-performance marine wind sensor designed specifically for the demanding conditions of the marine environment. It combines the proven performance of the standard Wind Monitor with a unique optical encoder direction transducer, serial output, and corrosion-resistant ceramic bearings.

The wind speed sensor uses a four-blade helicoid propeller. Propeller rotation induces a variable frequency signal in a stationary coil, which is converted to a digital serial output by the onboard microprocessor. The wind direction sensor uses a durable moulded vane with an absolute encoder that retains direction orientation even when power is interrupted.
